8x8 was originally invented by P.T. Smith and Eric Sawler nearly five years ago, though it was not called that at the time. The premise is simple, an eight panel cartoon is drawn up by the artist (Eric) and the writer must fill in the word balloons without looking at the other panels. This was originally done with one artist and one writer, but now it has been expanded to be eight writers per eight panel strip, thus 8x8.
It soon followed that there would be seven regular writers, and at least one guest writer per series. A regular writer could step down from his/her position at any time, and a new regular one would be chosen. The reason for having at least one guest writer each week is to keep ideas fresh and to avoid stagnation.
Currently, the regular writers are Alison Von Dollen, Barry Smith, Graeme Reed, Jackie Hanchar, Jeff Nao, Matthew Porter, and P.T. Smith. The artist and letterer is Eric Sawler. If you would like to be a guest writer, please post a comment and Eric will get back to you.
